Visa-to-Sri-Lanka

An intended traveler visiting Sri Lanka for holidaying purpose including visiting friends, medical treatment- Ayurvedic, yoga, visiting relatives etc., should obtain ETA approval prior to his/her intended visit to Sri Lanka through www.eta.gov.lk or the Sri Lankan Missions abroad.

All applicants are encouraged to apply through the ETA system in order to avoid unwanted delays.

The ETA is initially limited to 30 days validity from the date of arrival with double entry facility, Two (02) months extension beyond 30 days shall be granted at the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo. However further extension shall only be considered for valid reasons.

Sri Lankan dual citizens, children who are under 21 years of age and whose birth has been registered under Section 5(2) of Citizenship Act – 1948 of Sri Lanka and children born in Sri Lanka to Sri Lankan parents and who are under 21 years of age and currently holding foreign national status, are exempted from visa requirement.

On the basis of reciprocity, citizens of The Republic of Singapore, The Republic of Maldives and The Republic of Seychelles are exempted from the requirement of obtaining ETA to visit Sri Lanka

Visitors from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Palestine and Syria are requested to obtain a pre-arranged visa before arrival.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING TOURIST VISA THROUGH ETA

  • Submit the application through www.eta.gov.lk and receive the acknowledgement.
  • Receive ETA approval to the email given by the applicant in the application.
  • Applicants are advised to print the approval received to the email and submit it to the Immigration officers at the Airport when required.

APPLYING FOR TOURIST VISA THROUGH THE EMBASSY

An applicant may also apply for Tourist visa through the Sri Lanka Embassy if he/she is unable to apply though the ETA system with submission of the following documents. Tourist Visa Applicants are advised to submit their applications at least one month prior to the intended visit.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS & FEES FOR APPLYING TOURIST VISA TO SRI LANKA

  • Duly filled Application for Visit Visa – Form B and Information for Tourist ETA.
  • Valid Passport – Passport should be valid for a minimum period of six months from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka.
  • Recently taken color photograph (passport size 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm).
  • Visa fee of AED 130.00 for other nationals, SAARC Countries AED 75.00, should be made in cash at the Embassy. Children of any nationality under 12 years of age are exempted from visa fee, but should obtain a visa.

An intended traveller visiting Sri Lanka on business purpose is required to apply for a Business Visa. The applicant should obtain ETA approval prior to his/her intended visit to Sri Lanka through www.eta.gov.lk or Sri Lankan Missions abroad.

All applicants are encouraged to apply through the ETA system in order to avoid unwanted delays.

Business visa is issued for applicants, who undertake visit to Sri Lanka on business purposes under the following categories:

  • Participate in business meetings and negotiations
  • Participate in conferences, workshops and seminars
  • To take part in short term training programs (less than one month)
  • Participate in art, music and dance events
  • Participate in religious events
  • Participate in symposium

APPLYING FOR BUSINESS VISA THROUGH THE EMBASSY

  • Applicants who wish to apply for a Business visa through the Embassy should submit required documents together with duly filled Application for Business Visa to the Embassy.
  • Applicants are advised to submit their applications at least one month prior to the intended visit
  • Applicants who wish to obtain long-term employment visa in Sri Lanka should make application with relevant documentary proof of his/her intent of business purpose to visit Sri Lanka through the local agent in Sri Lanka to the Visa Section of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo.
  • The Embassy shall issue an entry visa to the applicant on submission of a letter of approval issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Colombo.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS & FEES FOR APPLYING BUSINESS VISA

  • Application for Business Visa (Form B).Applications could be obtained from the Consular Section of the Embassy.
  • Passport, which should have at least 06 months validity period from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka.
  • Recently taken colour photograph (passport size 4.5c.m.x3.5c.m).
  • A letter addressed to the Ambassador of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi by the Company/Organization in UAE requesting visa to the person concerned which include purpose of the visit, designation of the applicant etc.
  • Letter of Invitation by the Sri Lankan Company/Organization to the applicant concerned in UAE, OR a letter to the Embassy by the Sri Lankan Company/Organization in respect of the visit.
  • Visa fee of AED 150.00, SAARC Countries AED 110.00, should be made in cash at the Embassy.

All Media are free to visit Sri Lanka for Journalist purposes and may obtain Journalist Visa upon application from the Embassy of Sri Lanka Abu Dhabi, UAE prior to their arrival in Colombo.

No prior approval of visa is required for journalists from News Media/Print media that are doing news coverage, human interest news pieces, editorials etc.

For media that intends to film documentaries/films are required to fill out the application from the National Film Corporation (NFC)

Filming of documentaries and feature films, other than tourism promotional films and wildlife related documentaries, require prior approval by the National Film Corporation (NFC) of Sri Lanka.

Media teams are requested to complete the NFC agreement, and submit it along with the synopsis of the documentary/feature film, itinerary of the media team, filming locations in Sri Lanka to the Embassy at the application for journalist visa well in advance and the Mission will send the same to relevant authorities in Sri Lanka for necessary approval.

Filming of tourism promotional documentaries, or taking part in Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) familiarization tours, are required to fill the “SLTPB Selection Criteria for Journalists/TV crews for FAM tours” form, which is available at the Embassy.

The SLTPB requires at least 30 working days for processing relevant documents prior to the scheduled commencement of the project. Such media teams should also have a ground handling team who will be coordinating the project in Sri Lanka.
