The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, UAE celebrated the Sri Lanka’s 71st Independence Day with the participation of a large gathering of Sri Lankans living in Abu Dhabi on 04 February 2019 at the Embassy premises. The event was inaugurated by hoisting of the national flag followed by the singing of the National anthem by the students of Abu Dhabi Friday Dhamma School. Blessing the people of Sri Lanka and the country for its prosperity, Jayamangala Gatha were sung by school children at the event.

During the Independence Day remarks by Mr. Sabarullah Khan, the Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy, he congratulated all Sri Lankans living in Abu Dhabi for an auspicious Independence Day and commended the essential contribution that the Sri Lankans in UAE extend to Sri Lanka’s economy. He further recalled the close relationship which both Sri Lanka and UAE are maintaining since the establishment of the Diplomatic relations in 1979 which turns its 40th anniversary this year.

Coinciding with the independence celebrations, the Embassy organized “Sri Lanka Week” commenced from 01 February 2019 with a Blood Donation Campaign and a medical camp which was attended by around 300 Sri Lankans. The Abu Dhabi Blood Bank and NMC Hospital extended the technical support and around 100 people made their generous contribution by donating blood. Sri Lanka Cultural Foundation put forth its support to make the event a success.

Focussing on promotion of tourism, investment, trade and cultural plethora of Sri Lanka, the Embassy hosted several receptions for travel and tour companies, investors, business community, recruitment agencies, and Sri Lankan community organizations in Abu Dhabi on 03 and 05 February 2019 at the Ambassador’s Residence.

Further, a special reception was hosted for spouses of Ambassadors and female diplomats on 07 February 2019 at the Ambassador’s Residence to showcase the rich Sri Lankan cuisine. The Sri Lankan food and beverages were served at the receptions.
