The Embassy of Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, UAE, organized a memorial service in honour of His Excellency late Mr. Sulaiman Jiffry Mohideen, the former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, who passed away on 23.06.2018 while taking treatments in Colombo.

The memorial service was conducted with religious observances by religious dignitaries representing four major religions in Sri Lanka and with the participation of Sri Lankan expatriate community in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates. Buddhist religious observances were conducted by Rev. Kelaniya Ajitha Thero while Hindu, Islam and Christian religious observances were conducted by religious dignitaries from the respective religions, presented at the event.

The memorial service was attended by about 200 Sri Lankan community members from Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates, and community representatives, who addressed the gathering, recalled with appreciation the late Ambassador for his immense services rendered to the Sri Lankan community in UAE during his tenure at the Mission.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sisira Senavirathne, Charge d’ Affaires a.i. of the Embassy noted with appreciation the late Ambassador for his remarkable service rendered to the Mission and Sri Lankan expatriate community in UAE during his tenure as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Charitha Yattogoda, the Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates also addressed the gathering and appreciated the late Ambassador for his service extended to the Mission and to the Sri Lankan community in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates.

His Excellency late Mr.Sulaiman Jiffry Mohideen was a lawyer by profession, and he had held several official positions in various Government and Semi-Government institutions before being appointed as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates in November 2015.

The Mission kept a Book of Condolences opened in honour of late Ambassador at the Embassy, and a number of diplomats representing Diplomatic Missions  in Abu Dhabi, and Sri Lankan expatriate community members visited the Embassy for signing the Condolence Book.
